Vernon Chivers, nicknamed "Clingfilm", was a Firefighter at Borough Street Fire Station who occasionally stood in for absent watch members at Blackwall. He appeared sporadically from series 8 through to series 12.
Biography[]
Clingfilm was a firefighter at Borough Street. He occasionally stood in at Blackwall for absent members of Blue Watch. Though essentially harmless, he was a bore and a loner whose whiny, nasal voice and nerdish demeanour made him an irritant. He also mispronounced words like recall and bungee. Bayleaf claimed he was also known as "Mr. Personality", because when God made him, he gave him nearly everything, but missed a personality.
Clingfilm lived in a camper van and was divorced from his wife, Noreen, a religious cultist who considered him to be the spawn of the devil. He became friendly with fellow Blue Watch outcast Geoff Pearce and for a time moved in with Recall after his camper van was torched by Noreen. Noreen then appeared at Recall's house and took Clingfilm and Geoff hostage, intending to sacrifice them, before Recall came home and overpowered her. Recall decided to leave them tied up while he had a bath.
Clingfilm was in charge of Borough Street's Hydraulic Platform when Blue Watch were called out to rescue a deaf man who was trapped on a roof. While Dan tried to communicate with the man, Clingfilm pondered how he had got up there. He then accidentally miscontrolled the vehicle and the man almost fell off, but Dan pulled him to safety. Once they were back on the ground, Dan angrily confronted Clingfilm, but Pearce defended him. Clingfilm was last sighted in series 12 when he appeared at Pearce's stag do.
