Episode 5 (series 3) is the fifth episode of the third series of London's Burning. It was first broadcast in the UK on ITV on 28 October 1990.

Episode Summary[]

High up on the side of an office tower block, a window cleaner's arm gets stuck in a cradle mechanism. The High Line Rescue Unit are delayed, so a nervy Sicknote has to be hoisted down on a rope. Sicknote frees the mechanism and repairs the wound but then has to be lowered all the way to the ground where he collapses. Malcolm learns that Jimmy, the worker he rescued from the trench, is extensively brain damaged. At the suggestion of Clare, Bayleaf applies for a transfer to Croydon, but Tate is adamant that he shouldn't leave and hides all the Form 10s. George attends a ballroom dancing class, where he befriends a young woman named Kelly.

ACO Bulstrode appoints a reluctant Tate as acting Station Commander. Hallam therefore becomes acting Station Officer and Malcolm Acting Sub, with Hallam appointing Bayleaf as acting Leading Fireman. Sicknote temporarily takes over as Mess Manager, however he bickers constantly with Maggie, who resigns after he suggests that her cold might be scrofula. The watch also do not take kindly to the new healthy menu, and throw their apples at him. Technique has won a bodybuilding contest and is in the Swan with Sugarloaf to celebrate. He humiliates Marion by turning up with a female bodybuilder named Tuesday. A fight breaks out, in which Technique headbutts Colin and is then punched by Jaffa.
