Episode 1 (series 4) is the first episode of the fourth series of London's Burning. It was first broadcast on September 29, 1991.

Episode Summary[]

A light aircraft crashes into a warehouse in central London. John Hallam, acting Station Officer in the wake of Sidney Tate's retirement, is being interviewed for the permanent position. His wife Sandra feels sufficiently confident of his promotion chances (and anticipated pay rise) that she orders a new kitchen. Tony has left the Brigade to run a boutique with his girlfriend Jenny. Clare and her two sons move in with Bayleaf. Malcolm finds a new lodger, a law student named Helen.

Sicknote decides to stand for election as a local councillor for the Green Party. While doing DIY, a man gets trapped under the floorboards of his house. Blue Watch free him by soaking him with cold water from the pump to reduce his swelling. Kate's ex-boyfriend Martin shows up. Though she rebuffs him, to her annoyance he persuades her flatmate to let him stay with them.

Blue Watch are summoned to a late night shout, but Colin sleepily misreads the address they have been called to and accidentally sends the pump to the wrong location. Fortunately it is a hoax call, but it convinces Hallam to extend Colin's probationary period. George's girlfriend Kelly tells him she is pregnant and invites him to a party to meet her family. George is stunned to find that everyone is celebrating their engagement.
