Episode 11 (series 8) is the eleventh episode of the eighth season of London's Burning. It was first broadcast on November 19, 1995.
Episode Summary[]
Blue Watch are en route to a shout where a tree surgeon has been left badly injured after dropping the chainsaw. When they arrive he is barely conscious and out of reach of the ladders so Nick calls out Borough Street's Hydraulic Platform, commanded by Clingfilm. He and Pearce go up on the HP and carefully bring the man down. The ambulance is delayed so the pump crew take him to hospital themselves. Geoff's divorce is making slow progress and he reveals to Clingfilm that he cannot wait to be rid of Patti.
Blackwall are set to try out the fire helicopter. Unbeknown to everyone, George suffers from aviophobia and tries to get out of it. Micky phones the station wanting to talk to Kevin. Kevin refuses to help him and tells him not to contact him again. Pearce overhears the conversation and gets suspicious. Billy meets with his mum again. She explains that she gave him up because she was a teenager and because his father was drunk and abusive. Sandra is back from Brussels. At her self defence classes Maggie gets friendly with her instructor Derek. Evgenia and Costas offer to take Costas back to Cyprus to be cared for by them and the social worker tries to convince him. Nick is still adamant that he doesn't want to give up Costas.
Hallam, George, Kevin and Bayleaf are the first to try out the fire helicopter. George just sits there looking queasy but the rest enjoy the experience. When they return to the station the others greet them with galas. Derek turns out to be a hairdresser and offers to do Maggie's hair and regales her with harrowing stories about his experiences in Malaya and she starts to feel faint. Recall meets Ben at school and tries to persuade to stay with him in London but Ben says he wants to go to Scotland with his mum and Jamie.
Pearce tells Hallam that he thinks that it was Kevin's brother who attacked Maggie and that Kevin may be covering for him. Two junkies start a fire in a bedsit when one falls asleep with a lit cigarette in his hand. Billy and Geoff go in and pull out an unconscious man but a young woman and her baby are still inside. Sicknote and George find her but the terrified woman screams and struggles as Sicknote tries to carry her out. He and George eventually get her to safety and she is reunited with her baby.
