Daniel "Dan" Barratt was leading firefighter at Blackwall Fire Station during series 11 and series 12.
Plot[]
Dan Barratt was a product of the Brigade's graduate programme and was seen as a rising star. As such, he had been fast-tracked to promotion as Leading Firefighter after little more than a year in the job. After joining Blue Watch he was acting Sub Officer following Nick Georgiadis' promotion to ADO. Dan's father was also a firefighter and had been killed on duty; Dan found his father's reputation and legacy to be a burden. His mother also disliked that he was in the job and once offered him money to leave it.
Members of Blue Watch were sceptical of Dan's suitability for command given his limited experience, despite his rapid progress in the Brigade. He didn't help his cause when his orders at a warehouse fire led to Jack and Recall being hospitalised. Geoff Pearce took him under his wing, and encouraged him to take the crew commander exams. Dan didn't get along with Joe Walker, and they almost came to blows when Joe taunted him about his mistake at the shout. Joe was also his rival for Sally's affections and they found themselves in a to and fro love triangle. Sally dated Dan for a while and she moved into his flat, but eventually she chose to be with Joe.
Dan accompanied ADO Georgiadis into a cinema fire to rescue Marianne and Nick's son. As the ceiling gave way, Nick pushed Dan out of the way moments before it collapsed on him. Dan angrily confronted Clingfilm during a rescue of a deaf man stuck on a roof, when Clingfilm's error on the HP almost led to the man falling off. He was put out when Geoff Pearce supported Clingfilm. Dan fell for leading firefighter Carmen of Shadbrook when she was stationed at Blackwall with the TL appliance whilst Shadbrook station was renovated.
Dan decided he couldn't handle being leading hand anymore and asked Coleman, who had known his father, to demote him back to ordinary firefighter, stating that he wanted to earn his promotions on merit instead of being fast-tracked. After being injured in the blast which killed Sicknote and Joe, Dan left the Brigade and according to Sally, decided to travel the world.
